Lie Strong

Hola. Hope you are well.

Today’s blog is all about one man Lance Armstrong and his admission on Oprah Winfrey‘s show , that he is a drugs cheat. I’m sure if the cycling authorities knew all it would take for Lance to confess was an interview with Oprah, they would have got her involved sooner.

Having said that if  he had to confess on a talk show, and it appears he had to, I think he should have done it on Chatty Man with Alan Carr. The tone of the interview may have been different  but I’m sure it would have been entertaining.

A lot of people seem to feel let down by Lance as they had bought into his story and now they too feel cheated. I wouldn’t say I was one of those people but I did have respect for Lance, not for his cycling achievements but because he was the man who initiated the wearing of rubber wristbands to promote a cause. It may seem hard to believe now but back in the early 00’s (naughties) most things could be solved by wearing a bit of rubber on your wrist, from poverty, to racism to bullying and this was down to Lance.

He was also the man who appears in Dodgeball near the end when Vince Vaughn‘s character was going through a crisis of confidence and through a motivational speech was able to inspire Vince’s character to play in the final. Now with this confession, he’s made a mockery of the film.

I did like that in the interview, Lance claims that taking performance enhancing drugs was not in fact cheating. He went on to say he looked up the word cheat in the dictionary, where it said ‘to gain an unfair advantage’ and as his competitors were taking performance enhancing drugs he couldn’t be cheating.  What I like most about this is that Lance’s defence seems to be more about linguistic semantics and not what is instinctively right or wrong.

Now that it has all come out and he’s had to make this massive climb down, which I don’t think would be easy for someone with his personality, I wonder if he now thinks all the lies, deceit and cover ups were with it. The one thing he may cling to is the fact that his set up was described as being “the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen”. He should put it on his CV (resume) as it maybe too long to fit neatly on a wristband.

We need to talk about gun control

Hola. Hope you are well.

I’m not one for new year’s resolutions but this year I am aiming to spend less time on the computer and more time reading. I know there is a sense of irony in what I’ve just written as I’m currently on the computer, writing this and I’m also expecting you to be on the computer reading this. However it doesn’t take me long to write these blog posts and it should take you a lot less time to read them.

Talking of reading, I’ve currently got 2 books on the go. I don’t normally do this as I don’t want to get confused. The 2 books are Black Lions, the history of black footballers in England and We need to talk about Kevin, I just hope by the time I finish both books I don’t end up thinking John Barnes took part of a school shooting. Feel free to let me know how many books you currently have on the go, you can contact me via the comments button.

Talking of school massacres and gun control in America, I saw the exchange between Piers Morgan and pro gun person Alex Jones . What struck me is that Alex is a very very angry man. If there’s one man in America who shouldn’t have access to a gun it is probably him. He’s not exactly the best spokesperson for those believing guns should be freely available. It made even odder viewing because in a room of 2 people and one of them is Piers Morgan, Piers wasn’t the ass.

Til next time, stay safe!

It’s complicated

Hola. Hope you are well.

Having watched Coronation Street in recent weeks it has struck me that Nick Tilsley should consider casting his romantic net a little wider. Firstly, he was all set to marry Leanne, his ex-wife. When that fell through he ended up in bed with Kylie, who just happens to be the wife of his brother David. Not forgetting that in the past he briefly had a fling with Becky, who is Kylie’s sister. I should also mention that before getting back together with Leanne, he was going out with Eva, who is Leanne’s half-sister. The only person in his immediate vicinity, he’s not tried it on with is Lewis, who is busy flirting with Gail, who is the daughter of Lewis’s previous lady friend, Audrey.

With Kevin also making a pass at Jenna, the same women his daughter Sophie fancies, it does make me wonder if the men on Coronation Street should venture a little further afield, at least see what the talent is like on Rosamund Street.

Til next time, stay safe!

Quacks need not comment

Hola. Hope you are well.

As this is the first blog post of the year I should also wish you all a Happy New Year! As tradition dictates, it also means I have to subject you to my annual joke, so here goes… With it being 2013, we are now only 7 years away from everyone have having perfect eyesight.  (No one need comment on this joke).

This year will also see changes to this blog. Firstly, I will not be restricting myself to blogging on a Monday, so I could blog on any day of the week (such as today a Thursday), I’m sure this randomness will add to the excitement these blog posts already provide.

In addition to this I may do a few blog post in a week, rather than just the one (I may of course not do any). This will also allow me to blog about different subjects and not just about things that happen to me. The world after all doesn’t revolve around me. Having said that I’m sure a vast number of blog post will no doubt be about me.

As if to prove this point, I feel I should mention the fact that I have a small lump on my left shoulder, it’s been there for a few weeks now, it doesn’t hurt and I’m not worried by it but just wanted to know if I’m going to die from this? (Quacks need not comment)

Til next time stay safe!
