I’m always trying to find ways of best utilising my time mainly because I don’t have much of it. That’s why this Monday I tried to record a prongcast (a podcast I do with my mate Prong2) during my boy’s nap time.
There was always a risk this wouldn’t work as his nap times do vary but I thought it was a risk worth taking.
Naturally things did not go to plan as the boy didn’t take his nap til about 10 mins after Prong2 had gone home. I doubt I’ll be doing anything like this any time soon although knowing me I wouldn’t fully rule it out.
I recently made a handful of business cards promoting my prongcast.
I left one of these business cards in one South London bar and it got me thinking, do people still use business cards now we’re all linked on social media?
Let me know when physical marketing (business cards, flyers, posters etc worked for you. Thanks.
Thanks largely to Facebook I’ve had the recent realisation that all my creative peers have now passed me. They are either getting represented by management, doing one person shows, bringing out books, performing abroad, appearing on Radio 4 and meeting their heroes.
Perhaps the only one of my contemporaries that hasn’t overtaken me is probably Prong2 and that might only because he does a #prongcast with me.
Talking of which why don’t you add to our 20-30 listeners. Click here. Cheers
My management team told me I should join Instagram as that will give me access to an even wider audience. (even wider than the one I’ve already got??)
Not one to ignore my advisors I’m now on Instagram @anunknowncomic. This is also my Twitter handle #branding.
Feel free to check out either or both. Cheers.
I also do a comedy prongcast.
In our latest #prongcast Prong2 mentioned Robert Mugabe, he’s now under house arrest (Mugabe not Prong2). It’s the curse of 3Prong Attack. The first winner of our Prongs of Praise Nigel Pearson, is currently managing in the Belgium 2nd division. It might be worth our while to get people to pay us not to mention them on our podcasts.
I think the secret to how to spend your free time is to not do too much.
For example, last Tuesday I had a rare free day (I was off work and the boy was at nursery). I used this opportunity to align our patio door, clean an oven tray and record a #prongcast.
It’s not for me to say if I could have been any more productive but it was certainly a relaxing day (that might have had something to do with the pint and a half I also had).
The BBC Pay reveal shows a gap between what men and women are paid and that BMEs are underrepresented (not great news if you’re a BME woman).
Now I’m not saying 3Prong Attack (the #prongcast I do) are better than the BBC but…. both me Prong1 and my co-presenter Prong2 have absolute parity when it comes to pay. I say pay, it’s more like costs.
Plus with me being a person of colour and Prong2 being Jewish, we must tick some cultural boxes. But neither of you are women, I hear you ask. Well, firstly some of our 20 to 30 regular listeners are women and secondly, when we started out the third presenter was a woman. The last I heard she was living out in LA, no doubt continually contemplating on what could have been.
In many ways, we are the model the BBC should be copying, apart from the lack of making money and the no audience but other than that they need to be taking notes.
