Extrapolate that!

Brecon & Radnorshire voted to leave the EU by 51.9%-48.1% in 2016.

The by-election was triggered because the Conservative MP had been found guilty of committing expenses fraud. In their wisdom they put the very same man to stand as a candidate.

Plaid and the Greens stepped aside to allow the Lib Dems a clear run, in a Remain Alliance.

The Brexit Party took votes away from the Tories.

It looks like Labour voters voted tactically for the Lib Dems, preferring that to seeing the Conservative win the seat.

With all those factors at play, if anyone reckons they can workout what will happen in a General Election from this result, then they are better than me. (this could be the case)

Have you been sacked & then promoted?

I’m surprised more hasn’t been made of Boris Johnson’s cabinet appointments of Dominic ‘contempt of parliament’ Cummings, Priti ‘trade deals on hols’ Patel & Gavin ‘national security’ Williamson. Does this happen in the real world, have you been sacked only to go back to the same company a few months later in a more senior position? Let me know via the comments button or @anunknowncomic Thanks.

Never Forget

I’ve heard it said Theresa May’s political career will be defined by Brexit. I sincerely hope not as I wouldn’t want people to forget the Hostile Environment she created at the home office resulting in the ‘Go Home Vans’ and the Windrush cruelty. I wouldn’t want people to forget how she significantly cut police numbers as Home Secretary. I wouldn’t want people to forget her awful 2017 election campaign where not only did she repeat her mantra, ‘Strong & Stable’ to the point of ridicule but had to do the unheard thing of abandoning her manifesto policy (‘dementia tax’) part way through the campaign. And I certainly wouldn’t want people to forget how she treated the Grenfell survivors.

A progressive alliance

A minority government sounds like it should be really progressive. A government that includes black people, asian people and people from other ethnic groupings, people with disabilities and people who identify as LGBTQI.

Instead it’s what happens when the Conservatives do a bit rubbish at an election.

Theresa may have ballsed it up

Theresa May called the election so she could have a clear mandate for when she entered the Brexit negotiations. The only thing that is now clear is that she doesn’t have that mandate. If she truly believed in having this mandate she would have called the election and only when this mandate was secured would she trigger Article 50.

After her disastrous election, Theresa May is now saying the country needs a period of stability. If she really cared about stability she wouldn’t have called a snap election.
